Here are some of the questions we sometimes get asked, or that pop up commonly on search queries for our site. If you have any more, feel free to email them to us!
- What is Super Azo dye? Azo is one of the three major dye types used in CD-Rs. It’s patented by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, who are Verbatim’s parent, so expect to find it in Verbatim CDR discs. Super Azo is an improved version of MCC’s earlier Metal Azo dye which allows faster write speeds and is much paler. For more information on CD-R dyes, see this article at Wikipedia.
- What is Verbatim’s ScratchGuard? ScratchGuard is a system that Verbatim (MCC) introduced to improve the life of their discs. It includes:-
- Anti-static coating avoids attracting dust. Dust stuck on the disc can cause a “scouring” effect when it spins. You do not want this to happen, trust us.
- Liquid-repellent coating causes liquids to bead and roll off the disc faster, avoiding damage.
- Scratch protection. Verbatim subjected the discs to the abrasive action of steel wool and showed that the ScratchGuard discs were significantly more protected.
- What will ScratchGuard be used on? As well as DVDs, ScratchGuard is being used on the latest Blu-Ray discs to provide protection against their ultra-fine structures.
