We often get asked questions about the continuous ink systems (CIS or CISS for short) that we sell. They’re actually very easy to use if you bear a few things in mind.
Installation Summary
Installation normally goes something like this:-
1) Put the CISS on the table beside the printer. Remove the rubber plugs from the ink tanks and place one of the supplied air filters on each hole.
2) Press the ink-change button, then disconnect the power.
3) Remove the cartridge guard, then remove the original cartridges.
4) Push the printhead/cartridge-holder to the left and position the tubes. Then slide it back and securely attach the CISS “cartridge” where the original cartridge went.
5) Attach the balance and support arms to the printer, then attach the supply tube to them.
6) Adjust the supply tube line to ensure there is enough slack for the print head to travel all the way to the left, and make sure it doesn’t become twisted. If it does, adjust it and try again.
7) Power up your printer, and test the nozzles. Bingo!
You may also have to reset the ink-level settings (easy, and full instructions are supplied), and refill with ink when supplies start running low.
Disk Depot’s CISS FAQ
Here are some of the issues that tend to crop up most often:-
Q: I’m getting too much ink coming out, or the printout is blotted.
A: This may be due to the ink reservoirs being higher than the printer. Please keep the reservoir beside the printer on the same table (i.e. at the same level).
Q: I’m getting banding or missing lines in the print.
A: If you’ve just installed the system, this is probably due to the reservoirs being at a lower (rather than higher) level than the printer. Please keep them beside the printer on the same table and at the same level. This can also happen when one or more of the ink reservoirs is almost or completely empty- in which case you should refill them.
Q: I can’t reset the ink levels on my cartridges.
A: Normally, it’s only necessary to remove the old cartridges and insert the CISS attachment in its place- your PC will recognise the cartridge as being full. In some cases (e.g. when the ink has been allowed to run out completely on your old cartridges), the printer might not recognised the new “full” cartridge so easily. In this case, remove the CISS attachment from your printer, turn it off for an hour and try the installation again.
