There are two things to consider when buying batteries. One is the size and shape of it- most devices only accept one size of battery, so that’s usually not an issue. However, another choice is the type of technology that powers it. For example, the common AA battery size is available in zinc carbon/zinc chloride, alkaline, lithium and NiCd and NiMH rechargeable forms. Each of these battery types offers advantages and disadvantages. Read on to find out more.

There are generally two things to consider when buying batteries. One is the size/shape of the battery (e.g. AA, AAA, C, D, etc.) and the other is the technology that powers the battery.
Most devices only accept one size of battery anyway, so though it’s important to get the right size, it’s not normally something you have to give a lot of thought to. Even so, there’s still the choice of what sort of battery you should buy, and that’s what we’ll explain here.

Technological progress in the computer world is pretty amazing, but perhaps we’re not all as amazed as we should be?
Part of the problem is that we can’t “see” the changes- we don’t see how many more transistors are in a modern processor (and how much smaller they are) than there are in ones made ten or twenty years ago. And talking about megabytes, gigabytes and terabytes, we forget that each one is a thousand time larger than what went before.
So let’s try and illustrate it…

If you own an inkjet printer, you’re probably well aware that the ink for most models (especially the “cheap” ones) is horribly expensive- at least if you stick to the manufacturer’s original cartridges.
You’ve probably also noticed that “compatible” inks are available at much lower prices. In some cases, you can be talking about £1 for a compatible cartridge instead of £8 or more for its official equivalent. Too good to be true? After all, there’s surely no way anyone can sell decent ink that much cheaper and still make a reasonable profit- right? Wrong.
